1. Registering for the race

Where do I register?
Register online. Click the register button on the top right hand side of this screen. Register early to avoid disappointment.
My personal details have changed. How do I inform the organizer?
Click the register button on the top right hand side of this screen. Log in with your email address and select that you want to make changes to your existing race entry.
I am unable to race due to illness/injury. Can I get a refund?
Refund policy: 90% refund if cancellation is made by January 15, 2014 70% refund if cancellation is made by April 30, 2014 50% refund if cancellation is made by July 1, 2014. Race entries are strictly non-refundable from July 01st, 2014 onwards. Cancellations requests need to be made by mail to be sent to metamanbintan@metasport.com
Do I have to qualify to enter the event?
No. As long as you are fit, healthy, capable of completing the event and meet the age requirements, you can enter.
May beginners/first timers participate in MetaMan Bintan?
Yes, of course, also beginners/first timers who have never done any long distance triathlon are very welcome.
When is the entry deadline?
Registration will be closed on the final closing date, as mentioned on the registration page (01/08/2014).
Can I transfer my entry to another athlete if I choose not to race?
No. Individual race entries are non-transferable. Any person doing so will be held responsible in case of an accident arising from or provoked by the other person during the race. The Organisers reserve the right to exclude both parties from future events.
What is relevant for the classification of the age groups ?
The MetaMan Bintan bases categories on the athlete´s age on August 24th 2014 (race day).
How many athletes will be accepted to compete?
There is no participant limit at MetaMan Bintan.
How do I know whether my registration got accepted?
All registered participants who have paid the entry fee will receive an e-mail notification after receipt of payment. The competitors’ list will be published on-line 1 month before the race. Please note that international transfers of money may take up to three weeks. Please also keep in mind that ONLY fully paid applications will be listed.
My address or other information regarding my person has changed in the meantime. How can I communicate these changes?
Please proceed as described in “How do I change information on my entry?”
Do foreign athletes need a special licence for the race even if they hold a licence of an ITU member country?
No, you do not need to bring your national licence for registration.
Do I have to have a triathlon license in order to race?
No, participants do not need to hold or buy a license in order to race,
Is there a limit for entries from foreign countries?
No!
Full-MetaMan athlete: I arrived in Singapore airport on Friday evening before the race, when and where can I collect my race kit? Can I authorize someone else to collect my race kit?
Race kits can only be collected in person on the Saturday. Check the schedule for the late-arrivals. Contact the event’s organiser if you are outside the collection/ check-in times (metamanbintan@metasport.com)

There are absolutely NO entries taken on race day! Registration will close on the final closing date, as mentioned on the registration page (01/08/2014).

2. Race Preparation / Race Kit Collection

What do I need to bring with me to the Race Kit Collection?
Please bring a copy of your registration confirmation, and a photo ID (passport or driver's license) to the race office for verification and collection of your race kit and goodie bag.
Do I need to collect my race kit in person at Kit Collection or can I send somebody to collect it on my behalf?
Athletes of the MetaMan can only collect their kit in person.
Is the race briefing compulsory?
Yes the briefing is compulsory to ALL athletes as important information will be included. Missing the briefing leaves you at risk of missing vital information that may not be covered in the athlete’s guide.
Where do I get my official MetaMan Triathlon T-Shirt?
 The Metaman Finisher Polo will be handed to you after you cross the finish line.    
Where do I get my timing chip?
Timing chips are included in the race kit and given out at race kit collection.
Where do I pin my race number?
You have to wear your race number on the back of your shirt during the cycle section and on the front of your shirt during the run section. The numbers must be either pinned using the safety-pins provided by the organizers or attached to a belt. Please refer to your athlete’s guide for more details.
Where is the transition area?
The transition area is located near the Sea Sport Centre at the Nirwana Beach Club. Please refer to the venue area for more details about the race venue.
Can I race with an MP3 or other music player?
No. At no time during the competition are headphones permitted, as stated in the rules and regulations. Participants wearing such items will be disqualified. Please check the rules & regulations on our website.
What are the age restrictions?
Participants racing in the Full & Half distance of the MetaMan triathlon as individuals or team must be 18 years old and above on race day to compete in the race.
What is in my race kit?

Your race kit consists of: 1 x Swim Cap, 1 x Timing Chip (to be worn around your left ankle), 2 x Tattoos (to be applied to both upper-arms the day before the race), 1 x Safety Bracelet (grants access to Transition zone from check-in to check-out after the race), 2 x Race Bibs (to be worn on the back during the bike leg; and on the front during the run leg), 1 x Bike Tag (to be secured with the provided tie wraps), 1 x Helmet Sticker (to be fixed on the front of your helmet) + Blue Bag for Transition 1 gear (swim to bike) + Red Bag for Transition 2 gear (bike to run) + Green Bag for Finish clothes (collect at the finish)

3. Swim

How do I get to the swim start?
Check the athlete’s guide (venue map) for exact location. The start is 500m away from Transition Area.
Do we have to leave the water during the swim?
Athletes of the full iron-distance will exit the water midway through their swim, after 1900m. They will do a beach-turn and get in the water again for the second loop. Athletes of the half iron-distance will not exit the water and swim 1900m continuously.
How does the swim start work?

The athletes of the Full distance Metaman will start from the Nirwana Hotel beach at 7am.The athletes of the Half distance Metaman will start from the Nirwana Hotel beach at 08:30am. The athletes of the Blitz MetaMan will start from the Nirwana Hotel beach at 09:00am. There are no wave starts. All athletes of a given distance start together, from the beach.

What is the swim course like?

The Swim is held in the clear blue waters of an enclosed bay, off the picturesque beach of Nirwana Gardens. The Full distance athletes will complete two loops of the course, whilst the Half distance and Blitz distance athletes will have to complete one loop only. Please refer to your athlete's guide to visualise the maps.

What is the water condition like?
Water condition in August is very good with minimal swell, excellent visibility and a temperature between 26 and 31 degrees Celsius. Bintan being in a tropical climate, rain may occur during the race. The sea temperature in Bintan is 29 degrees Celsius throughout the year (please refer to the weather, sun and sea for more details)
What are the considerations for a swimmer who gets in trouble during the event?
Swimmers in difficulty shall signal by raising an arm to the escorting boats/canoes for assistance. Once assistance is rendered, the competitor is disqualified from the competition but allowed to complete the bike and run section.
Are wetsuits permitted?
No, wetsuits are not allowed (water temperature us 29 degrees Celsius). Please refer to the rules & regulations for details on swim rules.

4. Bike

Are there any guided bike course tours offered?
Yes. Please check the schedule on the MetaMan website for timing of the official recces.
How many aid stations will be on the bike course and where are they located?
There are 4 aid stations per lap (1 lap = 90 km). Locations : Kms [15-30-50-70] [90-105-120-140-160].  Please refer to the athletes guide to see the details of what is being offered at the stations.
Is there anything special to consider on the bike course?
Yes, although we will have road closure in place for the race, athletes are required to stay alert throughout the race and obey to the marshals and police. Please note that in Indonesia we ride on the LEFT side of the road. Please adhere to normal road rules, stay on the left side of the road at all times.
Is drafting allowed?
No, drafting is absolutely forbidden. Please refer to the rules & regulations for more details on bike regulations.
Is it allowed to use disc wheels?
Yes, they can be recommended during normal weather conditions.
What is the total elevation on the bike course?
The course has 600m elevation per 90km loop. Please check the race course elevation profile graph for detailed information about the course.
Do I get detailed road maps for the bike course?
Please check the race course for detailed information about the course.
How many laps do we have to do on the bike course?
Athletes of the Full distance Metaman have to do the bike course twice (2 loops of 90km).
Athletes of the Half distance Metaman have to do the bike course once (1 loop of 90km).

Athletes of the Blitz distance Metaman are riding an out & bike course of 55km.
Who can enter the transition area?
Only participants wearing the safety bracelet are allowed to enter the transition area.
Where do I put my bike in the transition area?
All racks are labelled according to your number. At the start of the race and when you return from the bike section you must place your bike on your designated space in the transition area.
What if I do not dismount before entering cycle transition?
You will receive a time penalty from race officials. Please check rules & regulations on the website.
When should I be checking in my bike before the race?
The transition area opens for check-in on Saturday 23rd August. Check the schedule on this website for more details..
How long can I keep my bike in transition after my race is completed?
You will be able to remove your bike from transition after your finish.
Am I allowed to run in the transition area?
Yes.
Is the event taking place on closed roads?
Most of the course is under road-closure measures, however there will be areas with controlled traffic (supervised. Please adhere to normal road rules).
What type of bike should I use to compete in the Metaman Bintan? Can I use my mountain bike?
It is the athletes responsibility to ensure your bike is in road worthy condition and suitable for a 90km / 180km bike ride on undulating roads. Mountain bike is strongly advised against. Time trial bike can be recommended as well as any type of road bikes. The course is suited to TT.

5. Run

Where will the best atmosphere on the run course be?
Please refer to the Spectator’s guide on the website. Especially at “Nirwana Gardens” at the swim start, transition area, bike turn-around point and run course laps. But most important: please don´t miss the Finish Line Party, starting at 7pm with live music, DJ, and ending with a great show of fireworks at midnight. Hot spots on the bike course will be announced later.
How many aid stations will be on the run course and where are they located?
There are 5 aid stations per lap, 2 of which double-up. This equals to stations every 1km.  Please refer to your athlete’s guide on our website for detailed information.
How many laps do you have to run?
Athletes of the Full distance have to run 6 laps of the running course for the full distance.
Athletes of the Half distance need to complete 3 laps.

Athletes of the Blitz distance need to complete 1 lap only.
Does someone keep track of the number of laps I do?
You will receive a bracelet after completion of each loop. This will help you keep track of how many loops you have completed. The electronic timing mats will tell us of anyone who has missed any laps out after the race.

6. After The Race

What does “Athlete´s Garden“ mean?
It is a chill-out zone for all athletes after the finish, directly next to the Finish Line. Here you can find your finish-clothes bag, changing tents, ice-baths, massages, 1st aid and medical assistance, refreshments and recovery food, a place to relax and hang out. You´ll get your MetaMan Finisher Certificate and your MetaMan Finisher polo shirt there as well. Only athletes and medical staff as well as the organisation team will have access to the Athlete’s Garden. The whole place is intended to create a beautiful and quiet atmosphere to help you relax and recover from a great day of hard “race-work”.
What do I do with my timing chip when the race is over?
All chips will be collected at the finish line by race staff. Please return your chip to the Information booth or race office if you do not start or finish your race.
What if I accidentally take my timing chip home with me?
Please email metamanbintan@metasport.com for further instructions.
Where and when are the medal presentations?

Medals are handed to every finisher at the finish line. A relay finisher will receive a medal for each team member. The top 3 Male & Female of each race (Full, Half, Blitz) will be presented with Champagne and podium presentation on race-day on the stage. Check the schedule for timing, The winners’ awards ceremony will take place on Sunday late morning over the “Awards Lunch”. Tickets for this can be purchased at the Race Office (at Nirwana Gardens) during the MetaMan race week.

What if I am a winner in one of the categories, and will not be attending the Awards Brunch?
Please contact the organizer at the race office if you have won a trophy in one of the categories, and are not present at the Awards Lunch.
Where can I find my results?
Official times will be posted at www.metamanbintan.com within 24 hours. There will also be a “Live Results” booth at the Athletes’ Gardens past the finish line. Additionally you will be able to collect your Race Certificate (with your split results) at the Athletes’ Gardens too.
I have a protest/complaint/suggestion.
Please proceed to the Information booth or race office within one hour after the race.

7. Miscellaneous

What is the weather condition like?

Is it allowed to accompany athletes on the course?
No, athletes who do not actively refuse this kind of company will be disqualified. Please refer to the rules & regulations on our website for more details.
Will there be restrooms on the course?
There will be restrooms at all aid stations on the course of the MetaMan Bintan. Check your athlete’s guide for more information.
Are there any supporting events?
Yes, there will be various recces taking the athletes on each of the 3 race legs. Please check the race week schedule on our website.
Where is the lost and found?
Lost and found items will be taken to the race office.
Will I be able to purchase my race photos?
Yes there will be official race photographers along the course and at the finish. Details will be announced later. Check your athlete’s guide for more information.
My results are incorrect or not showing!!
