Rules & Regulations

PREAMBLE

  • The Organisers reserve the right to limit and refuse entries.
  • The Organisers reserve the right to remove any participant deemed physically incapable of continuing the race.
  • The Organisers reserve the right to amend the Rules and Regulations without prior notification.
  • The Organisers reserve the right to amend the race course with prior notice to participants.

WEATHER DISCLAIMER

  • In the event of inclement weather, the Organisers reserve the right to delay the start of the race, shorten the race or modify the course.
  • Should inclement weather persist after the delay, the Organisers reserve the right to cancel the race without any refund of registration fees.
  • In the event of dangerous sea conditions only, the Organisers reserve the right to replace the swim with a run.

CANCELLATION POLICY

  • Cancellation policy: Refund of 90% until 15/01/2014. Refund of 70% until 30/04/2014. Refund of 50% until 1/07/2014. There will be absolutely no refund after 1/07/2014.
  • All entries are non-transferrable to other participants or other years.
  • No changes between disciplines (half, full and blitz distances) are permitted after 05/08/2014.
  • No team member changes are permitted after 05/08/2014.
  • Entries close on 05/08/2014.

RACE ENTRY

  • On-the-spot entries will not be accepted.
  • The Organisers will not be responsible for any disputes arising from incomplete and/or incorrect entry details given by the participants.
  • Triathlon Relay Teams may be made up of 2 or 3 members.
  • Participants must be 18 years old on 24 August 2014 to compete in the MetaMan Bintan 2014.
  • Age category is determined by the participant’s age on 24 August 2014.
  • Individual race entries are non-transferable. Any person doing so will be held responsible in case of an accident arising from or provoked by the other person during the race.
  • The Organisers reserve the right to exclude both parties from future events.
  • Participants that do not return their timing device at the end of the race will be charged a fee of 20$.

GENERAL

  • The full MetaMan Bintan race distances are 3.8km swim, 180km bike and 42.2km run.
  • The half MetaMan Bintan race distances are 1.9km swim, 90km bike and 21.1km run.
  • The blitz MetaMan Bintan race distances are 1.2km swim, 55km bike and 7km run.
  • Each participant undertakes to respect all the aspects of the regulation.
  • Participants must proceed to check-in during the allocated times and attend the compulsory race briefing.
  • Participants must have their body marked (both upper arms) prior to the start, by applying the tattoos provided in their race kit.
  • Participants must rack their bicycles and hand in their T1 and T2 bags during the allocated times. Participants failing to adhere to this rule are prohibited from starting the race.
  • The timing chip must be worn throughout the entire race around the left ankle.
  • It is the participant’s responsibility to get a new chip from the Chief Referee located in the transition area (at the Penalty Box), in the event the timing chip got lost or is malfunctioning.
  • Start numbers may not be reduced in size or altered and must be visible at all times.
  • Participants must not refill on hydration & nutrition outside the designated aid stations provided by the organizers.
  • Participants must respect rules and be respectful with marshals, volunteers, spectators and organizers throughout the event.
  • Participants must respect eco-zones for throwing away their waste throughout the race. Any littering outside eco-zones set up by the organization is forbidden and punishable.
  • Participant must refuse any outside help during the race (e.g. support, supplies, technical assistance)
  • Participants are not allowed to leave all or part of their race equipment outside the Transition zone.

CODE OF CONDUCT

  • The use of banned substances with the intent to improve their performance, eliminate the sense of fatigue or for any other purpose is not allowed at all times. Doping tests may be performed.
  • Participants must respect rules and be respectful with marshals, volunteers, spectators and organizers throughout the event.
  • Nudity outside the changing tents is not allowed.
  • Wearing headphones is not allowed at all times.
  • Participants must be familiar with the entire course and it is their responsibility to follow the correct route.

PARTICIPANTS CHECK-IN

  • Participants must proceed to check-in their equipment at the transition zone within the designated times only.
  • Full, Half and Blitz MetaMan athletes check-in will be open at the transition zone on Saturday 23rd August only (please check the time schedule on this website).
  • The check-in consists of: racking the bike at the transition zone designated place, depositing the “Bike Bag” and the “Run Bag” in the designated tents.
  • During the check-in participants are allowed to leave only their helmets and bike-shoes on their bicycle (small equipment attached to the bike is also allowed, such as tool box, bike bottles and bento box).
  • All other bike equipment must be left inside their “Bike Bag” provided by the organisers - and deposited at the check-in.
  • All running equipment must be placed inside the “Run Bag” provided by the organisers – and deposited at the check-in.
  • The deposit of the “Finish Bag” for all participants must be done on race-morning from 5:30am onwards at the “Bag Deposit” zone [next to the start line] (please check the time-schedule on this website).

SWIMMING

  • Swimsuits or trisuits must be worn.
  • Swim caps provided by the Organisers must be worn.
  • Swim goggles may be worn.
  • Fins, paddles, pool buoys, snorkels or any other swimming aids are not allowed.
  • Wet suits are not allowed (the temperature of the water in Bintan is above 24 degrees Celsius all year-round).
  • Support crews are not allowed.
  • Any assistance, other than medical aid received during the swim will result in immediate disqualification.
  • No persons other than the participants and officials are permitted in the swimming area.
  • Swimmers in difficulty shall signal by raising an arm to the escorting boats/canoes for assistance.
  • Once assistance is rendered, the competitor must retire from the competition.

TRANSITION 1 SWIM TO BIKE

  • The “Bike Bag” must be collected by the participant upon exit of the water and prior to entering the transition zone’s changing-tent.
  • Nudity outside the transition zone’s changing tents (men and women)  is not allowed.
  • The participants are responsible for packing their swim accessories (goggles, swim cap…) inside their transition bag (bike bag) prior to leaving the changing tent.
  • The discarded “Bike Bag” will be available for the participants to collect after they finish.

TRANSITION ZONE / CHANGE OF CLOTHES

  • The transition zone will be open for all participants’ access on race morning (please check the time-schedule on this website).
  • Only participants in the race, volunteers and personnel with the according authorization are permitted to enter the transition zone.
  • Coaches, private support staff and spectators are not allowed to enter the transition zone.
  • Nudity outside the transition zone men & women changing tents is not allowed.
  • Participants are not allowed to ride the bike in the transition zone. Participants must push their bike until the “Mount Bike” line at the exit of transition zone.
  • Participants must wear their cycling helmet fastened to the head and strapped to the chin before leaving the transition zone.
  • Racing bare torso during the bike or run phase is not allowed.

CYCLING

  • Cyclists must ensure that their competition numbers are clearly visible at the back of their adorned apparel at all times.
  • Racing bare torso during the bike phase is not allowed.
  • Participant may run or walk with his bicycle.
  • Cyclists are to keep to the left side of the road and reminded to observe traffic rules at all times.
  • All participants will be required to perform their own repairs if their bicycles should break down.
  • Support vehicles and crews are not permitted.
  • Participants must wear their cycling helmet fastened to the head and strapped to the chin throughout the bike phase.
  • The helmet must stay secured on the participant’s head until he/she has placed his/her bicycle at the allocated spot on the bicycle rack.
  • It is the participants’ responsibility to ensure that their bicycles and bicycle brakes are in good working condition.
  • Wearing headphones is not allowed at all times.
  • Drafting is not allowed. You are considered drafting when you are within 5 metres of another participant’s rear wheel or riding next to someone within 2 meters. You are allowed 15 seconds in someone’s draft zone. Once you are passed, you must drop back out of the draft zone before overtaking the person who passed you.
  • Cycling in the transition area is not allowed. Participants have to push their bicycle out of the transition area until after the “Mount Line”. Participants must dismount from their bicycle before the “Dismount Line” and push their bicycle into the transition area.
  • Participants that mount their bicycle before the “Mount Line” or dismount after the “Dismount Line” receive a time penalty.

TRANSITION 2 BIKE TO RUN

  • For the transition Bike to Run, participants have to take their run equipment out of the “Run Bag” and pack away their bike clothes in this bag themselves.
  • The discarded “Run Bag” will be available for the participants to collect after they finish.

RUNNING

  • Runners must wear their race numbers clearly visible at the front of their adorned apparel at all times.
  • Support vehicles or pacers are not allowed.
  • Runners must run on the designated path for the entire route.
  • No bare torso is allowed at all times.
  • Wearing headphones is not allowed at all times.

SERVING OF PENALTY

  • Penalties received during the swim will be served in the “Penalty Box” located within the transition area” after return from the swim.
  • Penalties received during the bike will be served in the “Penalty Box” located within the transition area” after return from the bike.
  • Penalties received during the run will be served at the end of each loop at the Penalty Box located in the transition zone.
  • If the penalty is received during the final loop of the race, the penalty will be added to the participants’ finish time.

CUT OFF TIMES

  • The participant must finish the single stages and the whole race within the given time limits.
  • Participants who are not able to finish in the times given for each stage of the race will be withdrawn for the race and have to hand over their bib to the race officials.

Cut-off time full distance:

  • The cut-off time for the swim is 2hrs20mn after the start for the full distance
  • The cut-off after the 1st loop of the bike is 6hrs00mn after the start for the full distance
  • The cut-off at the finish of the bike is 11hrs00mn after the start of the full distance
  • The cut-off to start the final loop of the marathon (35km into the run, 5th loop end) is 16h10mn after the start of the full distance
  • The cut-off at the finish of the run (finish line) is 17hrs after the start of the full distance (midnight)

Cut-off time half distance:

  • The cut-off time for the swim is 1hrs10mn after the start for the half distance
  • The cut-off after the bike is 9hrs30mn after the start of the start of the half distance
  • The cut off to start the 3rd and final loop of the run is 14hrs40 after the start of the half distance
  • The finish line will remain open until midnight (15hrs30 after the start of the half distance)

There are no cut-off times for the blitz distance

 

WITHDRAWAL DURING THE RACE

  • Participants reaching the finish line after the midnight cut-off will not be included in the result list.
  • Participants who voluntarily quit or where taken out of the race must immediately inform the next referee and report back in the next transition zone.
  • The Event Medical Team will have ultimate discretion and the final decision as to the suitability of a competitor to continue in the event and likewise if they should be withdrawn from the event.

MEDICAL – HEALTH PROTECTION

  • The medical personnel have the ultimate and definitive authority to take an participant out of the race, should body or life be threatened.
  • Such a decision on medical grounds results in immediate disqualification of the participant.

RESULTS, CLASSIFICATION AND PRIZES

  • Participants must stay on the official race course throughout the race. Failure to do so may result in disqualification
  • The winner of each category at the MetaMan Bintan will bear the title “MetaMan Champion”, regardless of the nationality of the participant. It is irrelevant for the ranking / prize money if the participant is from SE Asia or not.
  • The 1st Indonesians Male and Female of each race (Full, Half and Blitz) will be named “Indonesian Champion” and presented with a trophy at the awards ceremony.
  • Any protests must be lodged with the Chief Referee within two hours of the participant finishing the Event, or within two hours of their disqualification (if relevant) .
  • MetaMan Bintan may test any participant for the use of a prohibited substance at its own discretion. A positive test will result in disqualification.
  • Prize money shall not be paid out until eventual drug-testing results are confirmed.
  • Prize money will only be awarded to the PRO participants of the full MetaMan Bintan distance.
  • Prize money paid as follows for FULL MetaMan distance (in US dollars) as per the Prize Money table page on this website. Prize money applies to individual Pro Men’s and individual Pro Women’s fields only.
  • Trophies will be awarded to the top three in each age group so long as they are an official category.
  • The Full & Half age groups are: 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-50, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65+ and Open Relay.
  • The Blitz categories are: 19-39, 40+ and Open Relay.

PENALTIES & DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS

Red card – immediate disqualification

  • Grossly unsportsmanlike behaviour;
  • Disrespectful attitude with marshals, volunteers, spectators, organizers;
  • Nudity outside the changing tents in transition zone;
  • Refusal to conform to rules;
  • Third Black card offense = immediate disqualification;
  • Repeated warning offenses (see Yellow Card “warnings” below);
  • Cut-off time exceeded.

Black card – time penalty of 6 minutes

  • Drafting;
  • Throwing of waste outside of aid-stations discarding areas;
  • Repeated light offences (see Yellow Card “stop & go” below);
  • Start number cut or damaged in a way that cannot be read anymore (and the problem must be fixed before returning to the race course).

Yellow card – warning (i.e.: next is Red Card – disqualification);

  • Equipment not in conformity with the rules;
  • Accompaniment of a third person (on motorised or un-motorised vehicles, by foot);
  • Use of MP3, mobile phone, radio;
  • Nutrition/ hydration supplies from third party outside of an aid station;
  • Biking in transition zone (before the mount-line / after the dismount-line).

Yellow card – stop & go (i.e.: next is Black card – time penalty);

  • Racing bare torso (on the bike and run leg);
  • Helmet not fastened properly upon leaving transition area;
  • Wrongful storage of the bike and/or equipment in the transition area;
  • Absence of race number or misplacement.

PROCEDURES WARNING / PENALTIES

  • During the bike – The referee drives up to the participant, makes eye contact with the participant and calls his number in English.

The card (red, black, yellow) is shown accordingly:

· If the participant receives a black card, he will have to check-in at the Penalty Box of transition area upon completing the full distance of the bike.

· If the participant receives a red card, he is directly disqualified, must hand over his bib number to the marshal and return to the race HQ to collect his belongings.

· If the participant receives a yellow card, he has to stop and listen to the marshal before being able to resume the race.

  • Serving the penalty – It is in the participant’s own responsibility to approach the Penalty Box at the transition zone and serve his penalty. If he fails to do so:

· If a participant fails to serve his penalty once, he will have a 10 minutes penalty added to his overall race time.

· If a participant fails to serve his penalty twice, he will be disqualified.

  • During the run – If a participant receives a time penalty on the run course, he will have to check-in at the Penalty Box of transition area upon completing his current lap.

· If the participant receives a yellow card during the run, he has to stop and listen to the marshal before being able to resume the race.

  • Disqualification – In case a participant is disqualified on the swim, bike or run course, it will be communicated directly to the Chief Referee. The athlete will not be allowed to remain on the race course.

DISQUALIFICATIONS

  • All disqualifications will be announced on the information board at the Transition zone, at the Penalty Box and at the finish line board.

Any issue arising during the race which is not covered by these rules will be answered by the Race Director who will have the final say.
